Lingby

Cologne / Germany

DISCOGRAPHY:

Lingby means many years of soundcheck and songwriting, night drives and new beginnings. They are a five-piece orchestra, a rockband on tour. With guitars, vocals, trumpets and a lot of courage.

Though the line up has changed over time, the idea behind the band was defined right at the outset. As lead singer Willi puts it, “I want to play music that is relevant and lasts!”. In 2006, he founded the band with Judith on the keyboards. Both of them have been Lingby’s songwriters ever since. He writes the catchy tunes, Judith adding the gloomy ones. They searched for comrades to play and grow their songs together.

After several tours through Germany and Europe and album Count the Stars, a new band cast settled in 2012. Maik, Dennis and Judith’s sister Carmen now lend timeless sparkle to the songs with bass, drums and french or flugel horn. The five Cologne musicians don’t want to take part in fast moving hypes and hip manoeuvers. The cool kids are invited to like Lingby as much as their parents. Intro magazine believes that a song such as Like a Stone “holds the potential of becoming a hymn”.

Due to concerts with Sophie Hunger, Kimbra, The Black Atlantic and Beat!Beat!Beat!, Lingby has continuously attracted new listeners. Festival gigs at MELT! and c/o pop have earned them further acclaim. After a long time spent searching, Lingby have now reached a point where everything goes. Judith looks ahead: “Now, we really work as one. We are doing what we’ve always aspired to!”. In conclusion: I worked for the Light – and the work payed off.
